Storytelling For Leaders

Storytelling is our most ancient and prolific art form and is engrained in our minds from childhood.  Every day of our adult life we tell and take in stories, we absorb them from every medium and, even when we sleep, we dream in stories.  
 
So imagine if we could harness the power of storytelling for our business?
 
Increasingly companies are recognising the importance of storytelling and how it engages the brain and can inspire action in teams and organisations.
 
In our session we will cover the processes involved in creating a great story. We will demonstrate how to create excitement, involvement and interaction, how stories can paint amazing pictures in the mind and how to come up with ideas that will drive your narrative.

Participants will learn:
  • The importance of storytelling in the information age
  • How left and right brains are engaged by stories (logic and emotion)
  • How stories act as ‘zip files’, carrying information into peoples’ heads
  • Stories as a leadership tool
  • Other roles for stories (establishing values, branding, collaboration, knowledge sharing, envisioning, creating trust, ‘springboarding’ and taming the grapevine)
  • Creating and finding stories
  • Idea driven narratives: analogies & allegories
  • Principles of storytelling
  • Structure
  • Intent and persuasion
  • The voice of the storyteller

Over half the day is spent creating and telling stories. In the afternoon we look at the performance aspects of storytelling, at vocal and acting skills that will help you hold an audience, take them on a journey and, ultimately, persuade and convince them.
